I think there is value in &quot;stretching&quot; oneself, but if you don&#039;t ever allow yourself to back up and play something well that is more reachable, it can be discouraging. If you never do that, it&#039;s hard to see just how far you&#039;ve come! And there is something uplifting about finishing a practice session - whether long or short, good or bad - with a fun little piece that you can really do well.

It&#039;s much better to play something simple that you can play well instead of playing something so difficult that you can&#039;t really put your own style of playing on the piece.  We are mostly part time musicians and as long as we are playing on key with good timing etc.  we shouldn&#039;t feel too inadequate because of the high caliber of muisc we have at our fingertips on CD&#039;s MP3 players etc. We are part time and don&#039;t need to opologise for it as long as we sound good.</description>
