Why this site?

Hi all, Mark here. Welcome back to the site dedicated to all of us who live to play!

I wanted to take a moment to answer the question, “why this site?” To do that, I’ll have to give you a bit of history about our family. In short, we are all part-time musicians. My wife and I work, and our kids are all students…which means we are all currently “part-time” musicians – we play when we can.

So what’s the problem with that? Well, many great resources, online and otherwise, assume that you’re a full-time musician. Training tips for trumpet? Figure on hours a day of practice. Want to play bass guitar? Here’s how the pros do it! Are you a violinist? Listen to tips from a Juilliard alum and professional soloist. Well, you get the point. These are wonderful resources, but they often simply don’t fit those of us who just want to get better at our chosen instrument (or learn a new one) after work and before we have to mow the lawn and/or pick up the kids from soccer practice.  :-)

That’s why we started this site. Our goal is to fill this site with useful – for you – information about everything from guitar gear to resuming Suzuki string studies after a 20-year break, from playing in church to playing a jazz club, from…well, you get the idea. If you find it useful, we hope you’ll find it here.

Please let us know of any ideas or requests you may have, and don’t hesitate to comment on the articles, the site…anything at all. We want to hear from you!

In the meantime, keep reading…and keep playing!

Mark
